Competences

The monitoring program for antibiotic resistance in bacteria from food, feed and animals, NORM-VET, has been running since year 2000. Methods (PCR/hybridization) for detection of various resistance genes are established, as well as methods for conjugation, plasmid isolation and characterization. Some molecular typing methods are established (PFGE, SPA-typing, MLVA). Testing (phenotypic and genotypic) for resistance against quaternary ammonium coumpounds (disinfectants) in staphylococci are carried out. We have also some experiene with antimicrobial susceptibility testing in fish pathogens (Moritella viscosa).
